Injuries suffered two weeks ago have claimed the life of a Cabot serving with the Arkansas Army National Guard, in Iraq. In an Oct. 15 press release, the Department of Defense said Sgt. Ronald Baker, 34 of Cabot, AR, died Oct 13 at Landstuhl, Germany. The release said Baker died of injuries sustained Oct 7 at Taji, Iraq, when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device exploped near his patrol vehicle. Baker was assigned to Company C, 39th Support Battalion, 39th Infantry Brigade, Arkansas Army National Guard at Lonoke. "On behalf of the entire Arkansas National Guard, we want Sgt. Baker's family to know that we share their sorrow," said Maj. Gen. Don C. Morrow, adjutant general of Arkansas. "Sgt. Baker was truly a valued member of our Guard family and he will be sorely missed". Baker was born June 16, 1970 at Searcy. He enlisted in the Arkansas Army National Guard in Oct. 2001. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant on Oct 13. Baker is survived by his wife Joanne; daughter Alexis, his parents Wayne and Carolyn; brother Chris and sister Kim Owens.
