He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Pte Wroe and Sgt Gareth Thursby were shot and killed by a member of the Afghan Local Police at Checkpoint Tora in the south of Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province.

Age 18, he was from Huddersfield and joined the Army in September 2010. He completed training on November 11, 2011 and was assigned to 3 Platoon, Alma Company as a Rifleman. He qualified as a Team Medic and deployed to Afghanistan on July 1, 2012. In the short time he served, he made a significant impression with his energy and professionalism. He was described as a talented soldier with great prospects for the future.

Pte Wroe leaves behind his parents Michael and Claire, sister Demi, girlfriend Jessica, other relatives and friends. The family said, in part, "We can't believe you have been taken so soon from us. You will always be in our hearts for ever and ever. You would light up the room with your smile and bubbly personality. Our world will be a duller place without you. "

Funeral with full military honours was held on October 5, 2012 at St Bartholomew's Church, Meltham, followed by private interment service.
