ANDREW JACKSON ADDLEMAN, had a frightening story told about when he was almost buried alive. The story was originally told by Andrew's niece, Maria Hurt.
"He realized that he was lying in a coffin and he could hear people talking near him. There were voices that he recognized. He could not open his eyes, speak, or move but he knew if he didn't do something, he would be buried alive. His hands were laid across his chest and he gradually moved one far enough so the arm fell to his side. Someone noticed the arm and replaced it on his chest. In despair, he struggled until he moved it far enough to fall again. This time, people realized he was still alive and removed him from the coffin. Later, he told about those agonizing minutes of helplessness"
