MOUNT STERLING - Dwight Claude "Duff" Kerley, 86, of Mount Sterling died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mount Sterling.

He was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Lee Township, the son of Claude and Ada McDannold Kerley. He married Frieda Margaret Womelsdorf in 1948 in Quincy.

Mr. Kerley graduated from Mount Sterling High School and the University of Illinois College of Agriculture in 1942. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as an aviation machinist mate first class. He farmed and retired in 1986 as a machinist at Bohn Aluminum and Brass in Beardstown after 19 years. He also was an auctioneer for several years. He was a lifelong member of Timewell Baptist Church. He also was a member of Timewell American Legion Post 1059.

Survivors: wife, Frieda; three children, Paul Andrew Kerley of Salem, Ore., Mary Ann Kerley of Plymouth and John David (wife, Shelley) Kerley of Swansea; two grandchildren; brother, Thomas (wife, Bernice) Kerley of Mount Sterling; sister, Anna Bauch of Mount Sterling; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Timewell Baptist Church, the Rev. Dale Gadberry officiating. Burial: Mounds Cemetery, near Timewell.

Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling is in charge of arrangements.
