Ex-U Of A Registrar Dies At 69 - Funeral services for a former registrar of the University of Alberta were to be held today. Geoffrey Bradford Taylor of Edmonton died Tuesday at the age of 69. Services were to take place in Hainstock's Chapel with Dr. L. E. Smith officiating and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bentley Cemetery. Mr. Taylor retired from his post as registrar with the university in 1959 after 10 years. In the same year, he received the highest honor the university Alumni Association can bestow, the Alumni Golden Jubilee Award, for his contributions to the welfare of the institution. He was born in Romsey, Hampshire, Eng., and came to Bentley, Alta., in 1904. He came to Edmonton a year later, where he attended elementary and high school. TEACHER TRAINING After his graduation from the Kine Edward School he took teacher training at the Camrose Normal School. His teaching career in points throughout the province was cut short when he went overseas with the Canadian Army. He returned to Edmonton after three years of service, the last six months as a prisoner of war. Mr. Taylor graduated from the University of Alberta in 1923 with a bachelor of science and joined the university staff as a demonstrator. He was made an instructor in 1924 and, after receiving his master of science degree in 1925, lectured in physics. MADE REGISTRAR He was appointed assistant registrar in 1930 and registrar in 1947. During the early 20s, Mr. Taylor was an active worker with the university and alumni publication, The New Trail. He was Cubmaster of the 4th Cub Pack, now known as the University Pack, for 15 years and a member of the Metropolitan United Church. Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, John Taylor of Edmonton and Neil Taylor of Regina; daughters, Mrs. Peggy Lilley of Calgary, and Mrs. Frances Cline of Creston, B.C.; brother, John Taylor and sisters, Mrs. Doris Wilson and Mrs. Connie Sweeney of Vancouver; and 12 grandchildren.
