Hubert 'Dick' Taylor, 96, of Heaters, WV passed away Sunday Oct. 18, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital in Gassaway, WV after a short illness.

Dick was born on Nov. 24, 1912 on Burns Run near Heaters, WV a son of the late Henry and Myrtle Posey Taylor. He was a farmer all of his life, and a former rural route mail delivery by horseback from the late 1920’s well into the 40’s. He had one of the longest mail routes of its kind in West Virginia. He worked in the Baltimore shipyards during WW II and later worked for the WV Dept of Highways. He was also a member of the Flatwoods-Heaters Lions Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Margaret Simpson, Viola Douglas, Bess Claypoole and Beulah 'Toots' Singleton; brothers, Web Taylor and Ralph 'Jake' Taylor.

Dick is survived by his wife of 41 years, Retta Brown Taylor, daughter Edna Mollahan and husband Bill of FL; stepchildren include: Robert Prince and wife Judy of Heathville, VA, Jim Prince and wife Linda of Winfield, WV and Judy McCarthy of Heaters. He is also survived by one brother, Russell 'Russ' Taylor of Duck, WV; 2 grandchildren and 5 step grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 1:00 PM on Sunday Oct. 25, 2009 at Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens in Heaters, WV with Rev. Dana Friend officiating.
