Elbert Grisham Long was born December 2, 1902 in Tennessee, son of William Robert Long (1874-1953) and Mamie Grisham (1878-1967).

The 1910 Federal Census for Civil District 5, Tennessee (Hardin County) shows Grisham Long, age 7, born in Tennessee; living with his father, William R. Long, a laborer, age 36, born in Tennessee; and his mother, Mamie Grisham Long, age 31, born in Tennessee; and Grisham's older brother, James Edgar Long, age 10, born in Tennessee. The family was living in the home of Mamie's mother, Mary M. Cobb, age 55, born in Tennessee; and Mamie's stepfather, Alfred W. Cobb, a farmer, age 63, born in Alabama. Also living in the household was Mamie's maternal aunt, Martha A. Bryan, a widow, age 65, born in Tennessee.

The 1920 Federal Census for Bokchito, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Grisham Long, age 17, born in Tennessee; living with his father, William R. Long, a retail grocery clerk, age 44, born in Tennessee; and his mother, Mamie Grisham Long, age 41, born in Tennessee. Also living with them was Grisham's older brother, Edgar Long, a retail grocery clerk, age 20, born in Tennessee. In addition, William's niece, Thelma L. Milton, age 9; and his nephew, Deward Milton, age 7; both born in Texas; were living with the family.

In about 1928, Grisham married C. Mildred Laughlin, who was born October 15, 1902 in Texas, daughter of Jehu Baldwin Laughlin (1873-1950) and Beulah V. Peyton (1876-1956).

The 1930 Federal Census for Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows E. G. Long, a bank employee, age 27, born in Tennessee; and his wife, Mildred, age 27, born in Texas; and their daughter, Betty Louise Long, age 1 year 10 months, born in Oklahoma. The census shows that Grisham and Mildred were both age 25 when they married. They were living in the home of Mildred's father, J. B. Laughlin, a fieldman for Flag Oil Company, age 55, born in Mississippi; and mother, Beulah, age 52, born in Texas. Also living in the household were Mildred's five siblings: Joe Laughlin, age 25; Rosser Laughlin, age 19; Nina Laughlin, age 17; Jim Laughlin, age 15; and Woodrow Laughlin, age 13; all born in Texas.

The 1940 Federal Census for Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Grisham E. Long, assistant bank cashier, age 37, born in Tennessee; and his wife, C. Mildred, age 37, born in Texas. Living with them were two children, Betty Long, age 11; and Bobby Long, age 3; both born in Oklahoma.

Grisham died November 1, 1979 and was buried in Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County). His wife, Mildred, died March 2, 1911 and was buried beside her husband.
