WILLIAMSBURG Margaret Sullivan Bowden, 86, passed away in Williamsburg, Friday, June 11, 2004, after a long illness.
Born in Stafford County, she moved to Hampton and remained a lifelong resident of the Peninsula. She was a local businesswoman, and in 1954, began a career with Avon Cosmetics as a representative. Her career spanned over 25 years. She retired as a Divisional Sales Counselor. She was a charter member of the Wythe Woman's Club of Hampton and was a member of Chestnut Memorial Methodist Church.
She will be best remembered as a loving mother, devoted friend, and by her grandchildren as their beloved "Mimi."
Mrs. Bowden is survived by two brothers, Willard Lee Sullivan and Roderick "Bubby" Lee; two sons, Roderick Ernest Bowden and his wife, Sue, of Atlanta, and R. Sterling Bowden and his wife, Beverly, of Williamsburg; six grandchildren, CMDR Brian E. Bowden, Michelle B. DiCiro, Hope B. Callis, Dean P. Bowden, Elizabeth A. Raposa and Kristen H. Sanders; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ben Rooker. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Following the interment, the family will gather at 201 Porter Avenue in Hampton.
