He joined the U.S. Navy in 1957 after graduating from Nevada High School. He returned home, after a few months in the Navy, to marry his high school sweetheart, Madeline Carol Adam. He served onboard the US Navy vessels, USS Keppler (DD-765), USS Albany (CG-10), and USS Nautilus (SSN-571). During his 8 years of naval service, he sailed on a Mediterranean cruise, West Pacific cruise, North Atlantic cruise, and was stationed on the USS Albany during the Cuban Missile Crisis blockade of 1964. He held the rank of Second Class Petty Officer with a rating of FTM2, Missile Fire Control Technician. Chuck was employed by the U.S. Civil Service after his discharge in 1963. He moved his family to Socorro, New Mexico to work at the White Sands Missile Range as a Range Radar Technician at Stallion Site. After a brief term of employment at WSMR, he moved to the China Lake Naval Weapons Research Base, California. As a Research and Development Technician, he assisted Naval Scientists with the development of advanced weaponry and technologies. He later accepted a job with the Federal Aviation Administration in 1974 as a Radar Technician for the FAA's Long Range Radar network. Chuck retired in 1993 from the FAA in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico following the death of his wife Carol. During his retirement, he enjoyed community service as a volunteer fireman with the La Cueva Volunteer Fire Department in the Jemez Mountains. His contributions on the Truck Committee earned him the title as "Chuck Driver." His enthusiasm for driving fire trucks progressed to becoming a delivery driver and instructor for Pearce, KME, and Ferrara fire truck manufacturers. Chuck was also an instructor for tanker/pumper trucks for Sandoval County New Mexico. Chuck enjoyed many hobbies such as fishing, hunting, woodworking, furniture building, and carving Native American Kachina dolls. His interest in the Native American culture and spiritualism began in early childhood and extended until the day of his death. He formed lasting friendships with several New Mexico Pueblo, Apache, and Navajo Native American people. Chuck was known to speak his mind in a direct manner, gave good stern advice when needed, and always placed the needs and love of his family above all else.
