Maxine Rose "Little Billie" Davis, 90, of Jerome, died Friday, November 24, 2000, at St. Benedicts Family Medical Center Long Term Care Unit. She was born May 2, 1910, at Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Catherine Lydecker Smith.

Maxine came to Jerome as a young child and lived with her family at Falls City, where she attended school. She also received some of her education in New York State, where she lived with her older sister, the Charles Lavens family.

She married Bertell Greene and they lived in Florida for a few years before they divorced. Following her return to Jerome, she met and married William Davis and they later divorced.

Maxine trained with the sisters at St. Benedicts Hospital and worked there for several years as a nurses aid and activity director. She was a favorite of the old folks because of her tiny size and kindness. Although she had no children of her own, she shared a close bond with the three Lavens children, Colleen, Dennis and Viola. She leaves many good friends.

Survivors include her sister, Vera Clark of Jerome and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services for Maxine Davis will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in the Hove-Robertson Funeral Chapel by Rev. Ron Wekerle. Burial will follow at the Jerome Cemetery. No viewing is planned.
