Funeral Services to Be Held
Today For Mrs. McMurray
Funeral services for Mrs. A. D. McMurray, who died early Monday morning, are to be conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the Amack & Son Funeral Home, by Rev. Arthur Swanson. Interment is to be made in the city cemetery.
Helen Winnifred Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Thompson, was born in Turmaine County, Ireland, August 13, 1850. She came with her parents to New York and remained there until she was eight years old and then moved to Listdale, Canada, where she grew to young womanhood. Here she met, and learned to love A. D. McMurray, and they were happily wedded in the year of 1870. Six children were given to this union, three daughters and three sons.
From Canada, Mr. McMurray came to Kansas to a homestead near Salem, this was their nearest town at that time. Mrs. McMurray and her three children accompanied by her father, Archie Thompson arrived about six months later. Their hearts filled with love, faith, courage and venture, in seeking this new home, inhabited as tenants in common that sacred spot called home. Three children were born in this home where the family lived for thirty-two years. In the year 1909 they left the farm and moved to Red Cloud. Mr. McMurray passed away in 1916. Mrs. McMurray was a great lover of the home and greatly interested in her children and enjoyed visiting a few weeks at a time with her children and grandchildren and with her grand niece, Mrs. Nora Engstrom. However, she was always anxious to return home and derived much enjoyment from reading her Bible and being alone with her Master and doing her own work as long as possible.
She was taken suddenly ill June 5th and was moved to her daughter's home, Mrs. Peterson, where she was lovingly cared for. Thus after a long and happy life full of fellowship and service she has come to the end of her earthly day. Her passing on June 17th, bringing thoughts of comfort to those that remain is the realization that her faith in her Lord means the hope of life beyond the grave - eternal life.
Instead of mourning, let us look up and address her in the words of the poet:
Thy day has come, not gone;
The sun has risen, not set;
The life is now beyond
The reach of death or change,
Not ended but begun.
O, noble soul! O, gentle heart
Hail and farewell.
Her children who are left to mourn her passing are George, of Maywood, California, Helen Ducker of Red Cloud, Archie, Ravenna, Charles, Gardena, California, Mable Peterson of Red Cloud, Lottie Aultz, Overton.
She is also survived by twenty one grand children and one great-granddaughter; other relatives and friends.
