After having spent his early life in Fortuna, Wilber worked 40 years with Western Auto, retiring in 1971 as a supervisor. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, the Wyandotte County Sheriffs Posse and the Highland Crest Lodge of the Order of the Moose.
