She was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Evanston, to Arlington and Dorothy (Krieman) Netherton.
A resident of Pistakee Highlands since 1958, Betty moved to McHenry in 1986. She was employed by the Johnsburg School District for 17 years after becoming widowed at age 47. She worked in the cafeteria from the time the high school opened its doors in Johnsburg.
Betty Jane was a member of the Royal Neighbors of McHenry, St. John the Baptist Church, and was active in many church activities including the St. John Women's Club. She had been on a bowling league in her younger years.
Along with her husband, Betty Jane was active with the Power Squadron Boating Club. She loved the family vacations they took on houseboats or camping. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword and word search puzzles, Elvis music and collecting Betty Boop memorabilia.
She is survived by seven children, Jeffrey A. Zenner of Jacksonville, Fla., Joanne (Guy) Erbin of McHenry, James (the late Debbie) Zenner of Carol Stream, Janice Hammond of McHenry, John Zenner of Champaign, Jack (Lisa) Zenner of Milton, Wis., Jill (Michael) Schwartz of Norfolk, Va.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry John Zenner Jr. on June 25, 1978; a son, Joseph Michael Zenner on Feb. 11, 2003; a daughter, Jeanine in 1963; and brother, Jim Netherton.
The visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry. The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be Monday in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Johnsburg.
