Roman Catholic Saint, Pope. The second bishop of Rome, he may have been the same person as Pope Cletus. According to the catalogues he occupied the papal chair for twelve years (c. 77-88). He was put to death under the Emperor Domitian around 91 AD, and was buried near Saint Linus, where his relics remain.
