Vera Cruz Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He enlisted in the United States Navy and had earned the rating of Hospital Apprentice Third Class. On August 19, 1914, he was awarded the CMOH for his actions during the seizure of Vera Cruz, Mexico on April 21, 1914. His citation reads, for "extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession on board the U.S.S. Florida." He retired in September 1938 but was recalled to active duty during World War II. At the end of the war, he was placed on the retired list with the rank of Lieutenant.
