Entered service as Assistant Surgeon in the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry at organization on June 20, 1861, at age 35. Commissioned to date of May 16, 1861. Commissioned Surgeon on August 12, 1862. Resigned and honorably discharged for disability on March 13,1863.
