She died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge at age 79. Mrs. Borde was born in Bogalusa on Jan. 11, 1929, and raised in Byrd's Chapel Community, Miss. Visitation at First United Methodist Church, Denham Springs, on Sunday, July 6, from noon until service at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Steven Spurlock. Burial in Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery in Denham Springs. Survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Judge Chuck Borde and Terri Fairburn Borde and Shelby A. Borde and Donna G. Borde; grandchildren, Dr. Jarrad G. Bencaz and wife Brandy Bankston Bencaz, Hillary Borde Green and husband Dr. Tyson E. Green and Sgt. Daniel Poche; great-grandson, Jackson E. Green; brother, Richard A. Smith; special great-niece, Jessica Fairburn; and many other family members and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. "Coach" Borde Sr.; parents, Shelby and Myrtle Harvey Smith; and brothers, Douglas and Willie Jay Smith. Pallbearers will be Dr. Jarrad Bencaz, Dr. Tyson Green, Sgt. Daniel Poche, James Smith, Todd Smith and Richard Harvey Smith. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denham Springs. Mrs. Borde was an active member of the community through membership and past presidency of the Denham Springs Pilot Club and a member of the Garden Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 319 Mattie St., Denham Springs, LA 70726.
