The death of Clinton Flowers, a lifetime resident of Adams county, brought sorrow to many neighbors and friends and devoted family. Saturday morning December 21, following a long illness. Mr. Flowers was taken ill in June 1928 and over a period of two years had suffered from chronic anemia which resulted in leukemia during the last few weeks. It is believed he had as many as 75 blood transfusions during his illness, to which he responded splendidly for a time, but the frail body finally refused to respond.
Clinton DeWitt Flowers, son of David M. and Lenore Blanche Flowers was born September 22, 1884 and died in a Creston hospital December 21, 1940, age 56 years, two months and 30 days. He was born in Adams county and had made this his home practically his life. He attended the Brooks high school and was also a graduate of the Corning Academy. He was married to Myrtle Olive Hardisty, February 19, 1907. To this union five children were born. One son died in infancy and a son aged ten died last spring. The living children are: Paul Flowers and Ora Flowers of Adams county and Donald M. of Benicia Arsenal, located on San Francisco Bay California. He is also survived by his wife of Cromwell, Iowa; his mother Mrs. Blanche Mason of corning; two brothers Jesse Flowers of Adams county and Forest Flowers of Barnesville, Ohio; one grandchild, Patricia Ann Flowers. One brother, Meade Flowers is deceased.
Mr. Flowers had been a patient and cheerful sufferer. His kindly amiable disposition seemed to be intensified with his suffering and he was always glad to co-operate in any routine in his care. He made a gallant fight for life but succumbed when nature failed.
Funeral services were held from the brooks Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock , in charge of Rev. Schwalenberg. Burial was in the Brooks cemetery.
