Cremella Faye King Allen was born December 18, 1919, in Hallsville, Texas, to Allie Geneva and Eugene King Sr. She was known throughout the community and in her family as Mrs. Allen, Cremella, Ms. C, Aunt Cre and Momma. Mrs. Allen was a lifelong resident of Hallsville and lifetime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess.
Mrs. Allen attended Cooperville School in Hallsville and Pemberton High School in Marshall, Texas, before attending Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, for a degree in education. She continued her education at Denver College in Denver, Colorado.
She began her career in education at Original Golden Hill School, co-teaching with Professor Fred Barry, before becoming a teacher for Galilee Schools in Hallsville. During this time, she married David L. Allen Jr. of Bryan, Texas, an agriculture teacher, and from this union had two daughters, Shirley Jeane and Winifred Monette.
After the integration of schools in Hallsville, she continued teaching in the Hallsville Independent School District as an ele­mentary school teacher and retired in May 1985 after 42 total years of service in education. She was a member of the Wiley College National Alumni Association (WCNAA), and in 1994, Mrs. Allen received the award for Outstanding Service to Mankind awarded by the Eta Chi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents, Allie and Eugene; husband of 44 years, David L. Allen Jr.; twin sister Marzella Baty; sisters, Australia Smith and Emma Grant; brothers, Oscar King, Jesse King, Darnell King, Eugene King, Raphael King and Hobart King; and son-in-law, William Ford Sr.
