Ackerman Sisters
Hear From Family
For the second time in three and one-half years, Misses Jean and Lucy Ackerman have had a letter from their sister and brother who live in France.
The Misses Ackerman, who live at 309 South Seventh street, came to the United States from France shortly after World War I and joined their brother, Julius Ackerman, in Paducah.
Their home was on the border between Switzerland and France near the Maginot Line and other members of their family still lived there until the Germans invaded France. Then they were forced, the letter stated, to flee for their lives.
After France was liberated, Miss Susanne Ackerman, their sister, wrote that their brother returned to their home to find it occupied by a family with eight children. It had been looted of linen and silver and all of their most cherished possessions.
The letter was written April 12 and received June 14. It was postmarked Frentenelle, France, where the family has taken refuge until they can return to their home in Saverne. Transportation problems will prevent that, possibly, for some time.
