There are two assertions about the parents of Abel S Baker. 1) He is the son of William Baker (1782 - 1844) and his wife Hannah Carpenter Baker (1783 - 1856). 2) He is the son of Benjamin Baker & Ruth Sherman Baker (1782 - 1864). The two are brothers, sons of Benjamin Baker (c1760 - 6 Jun 1801) & Rhoda Slocum Baker (14 Apr 1756 - 7 Jul 1831).

I have not yet been able to locate any primary sources to support either assertion. I unlinked Abel from his parents until some evidence appears that supports one of the assertions. Thanks to Priscilla Wolff for bring this to my attention.

"This is to certify that on Monday evening Dec 30th, 1839 Capt. Abel S. Baker and Miss Eliza A. Thomas both of North Kingstown were lawfully joined in marriage."
