Mrs. Louise Yancey Martin, 89 widow of Christian Martin, died at 1 a. m. today (Mar 11, 1936) at her home, two miles from this village, after a long period of failing health from infirmities and complications. She was born on Jan, 26, 1847, in Alsace-Lorraine, a daughter of Peter and Magdalena Zehr Yancey. She was one of eleven children. The family came to this country when she was a young girl and were among the pioneer settlers of the town of Croghan. About 65 years ago she was married to Mr. Martin and they located on the farm where she spent the rest of her life and died. Mr. Martin died in July 23, 1915. The survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Jacob Schrag, of Denmark; Mrs. John Mathys, of Naumburg; Mrs. Noah Yousey, of Lowville; Mrs. Menno Zehr at home, and Mrs. Julius Farney, of Croghan; three sons, Andrew, of Lowville; Peter, of Belfort, and Michael Martin, of Naumburg; 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; five brothers, Joseph, of Ladysmith, Wis.; Daniel, of North Rose, NY; Andrew, of Belfort; John, of Seneca Falls, and Benjamin Yancey, of Beaver River Station; one sister, Mrs., Mary Ulrich, of Akron, N. Y., and one adopted sister. The funeral will be held Saturday noon at the house and at 1 p.m. at the Amish Mennonite Church, Rev. C. N. Noftsiger, of Lowville, officiating. Burial will be in the Amish Mennonite Cemetery at Kirschnerville.
