Mary Sue Smart, loving wife, mother and grandmother, age 89, of Cottontown, TN passed away, Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her residence.
She was born in Cockrum, Mississippi on February 10, 1925 to parents, Ben and Callie Powers Langston. She was raised in Cockrum, Mississippi, where she graduated from high school. She was married to Mr. John Smart who was a military retiree. John and Sue lived in Memphis, TN where he was stationed. After his retirement, they moved to White House in 1961. Sue and John built the first Dairy Dip in White House in 1966. They were long time members of Walnut Grove Methodist Church.
Sue enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with her family and many friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Callie Langston and husband, John Smart.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Rodney Allison of Cottontown; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Amy Smart of Bethpage; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and O.Z. Stephens of Bartlett, TN and Barbara and Tom Lilly of Savanah, TN; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; also by her faithful canine companion, Sassy.
A Celebration of Sue's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home chapel in White House with Sandy Shawhan officiating. Interment will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Cottontown.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23rd from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Memorial contributions requested to be made to Walnut Grove Methodist Church.
