Claire was a descendent of the Texas pioneer Foster family who settled along the Brazos River in Milam County in the 1840's.

FORT WORTH - Claire Foster Schmid, 98, died Saturday, March 8, 1997, at home.

Funeral: 3 p.m. Monday at the First Methodist Church of Fort Worth. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park.

The Rev. Dr. K. Wayne Day, senior minister, the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Steenson, rector, St. Andrew Episcopal Church, and the Rev. Bertrand N. Honea Jr., St. Andrew Episcopal Church, will officiate.

Pallbearers: Mrs. Schmid's grandsons and great-grandsons, W. A. Schmid III, William W. Schmid, Paul Tripplehorn, Ron Davis, Robert Dupree, W. A. Schmid IV, Matt Schmid, Will Schmid, Kelly Tripplehorn and Jacob Tripplehorn, will bear her casket to the grave.

Memorials: Charity of choice.

She was a longtime resident of Fort Worth and member of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. She was a founder and member of the board of directors of the Opera Association and Planned Parenthood of Fort Worth. She was a member of The Assembly, Junior League of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Club and River Crest Country Club. Mrs. Schmid was a founding board member of Pro-America Fort Worth, Inc. and a member of the state and national boards.

Her grandfather, Harry Foster, lived in the log cabin which serves as the focal point of the Log Cabin Village in Forest Park. Her father, Robert Foster, was a turn-of-the-century land developer and realtor in Fort Worth. He established Fostepco Heights on the North Side, Chase Court on the South Side, and handled real estate plans for Hicks Field and Camp Bowie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Arsdale Schmid, and her daughter, Shirley Suzanne Schmid.

Survivors: Sons and wife, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. "Mickey" Schmid Jr. of Fort Worth; daughter, Mrs. Robert Dupree; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tripplehorn, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Schmid III of Fort Worth, Ms. Kathy Dupree, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Davis and Robert Dupree, all of Dallas, and Mr. and Mrs. William W. Schmid of Lafayette, La.; great-grandchildren, Kelly, Alexis Claire and Jacob Tripplehorn, Claire and Shapley Davis and Mick, Will, Matt and Adley Claire Schmid; nephews and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Foster Jr. of Dallas, and George S. Peyton Jr., of Berkeley, Calif.
