Joseph Henry Crain

Joseph Henry Crain, 82, of 472 Oakwood Ave., East Aurora, former editor of Rural Newspapers and former School Principal, will be buried at McDonough, N. Y., Sunday.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P. M. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, East Aurora. The Rev. Robert Emmons, minister, will officiate. Mr. Crain died Thursday at his home. He had been in ill health for months.

Born in Delphi, N. Y., Mr. Crain was the son of Rev. Cyrus S. Crain. He attended Oneonta Normal School and embarked on a teaching career after graduation. He later served as principal of Schools at Mt. Upton and Sharon Springs.

He married the former Nellie Skillman in 1899, and in 1906 they moved to Afton, N. Y., where Mr. Crain was Editor and Publisher of the Afton Enterprise.

In 1912 he became Editor and Publisher of the Chronicle-Journal in Franklinville. They lived in East Aurora for the past 30 years.

Survived besides his wife are a son, the Rev. Leonard Crain of Burma; a daughter Margaret Lee Crain, and three Grandchildren. Buffalo Courier Express, 6 September, 1952
