John Baker Sr. also called Hessian John Baker, was born in VA about 1760, He married Elizabeth Turner, daughter of James Turner 1st. She is thought to be the oldest child of James Turner 1.

Note; John Baker was Literate at least in the German language.

This John Baker supposed to have been a Hessian soldier fighting with the British against the Americans during the Revolutionary war. Old records refer to Baker as Becker. The name Hessian was indicated as a nickname for him.

According to A Sketch'' of the Brocks Gap Turner Family.'' Rockingham Co Tax records show that ''Hessian John Baker'' evidently lived at the James Turner 1 homeplace at Genoa, VA. From around 1802 untill 1812. The 1806 tax record begins to list the old Turner land in the name of John Baker. Beginning in 1812, the Home Place is in the name of the younger James Turner. While John Baker in 1813 has 2 tracts on Brock's Gap Dry River, most certainly the 250 acres which had been owned by the younger James Turner. In other words John Baker had traded the Turner homeplace in Genoa to James Turner 1 for James's land on Dry River.

Note do not know where John Baker is buried. Most certain in the Michael Baker cemetery farm with his son Michael and wife Elizabeth Turner Baker, or possibly on the Turner farm land cemetery at Fulks Run?

John Baker died September 30, 1822 and Elizabeth Turner Baker died before or by 1829?
