Dave Blackwell, 90 Civil War Vet, Dies
Aged Man Had Been Resident of Pawnee County for 35 years

David Blackwell, one of the county's few surviving veterans of the civil war, died Sunday night at 6:45 o'clock at the home of his son, William Blackwell of near Rozel. He was 90 years of age.

Mr. Blackwell had been a resident of Pawnee County for 35 years, moving her from Illinois. He was born at Brighton, Illinois. As a young man he was engaged as a harness maker, but his vocation in Pawnee county was farming.

He served for three years in the Civil War. He was in a number of battles and was a member of the forces which participated in the siege and capture of Fort Blakely, Alabama, on April 8, 1865. During one skirmish he was injured in the foot by a spent shell. He bore the scar of this wound throughout his life.

He is survived by three sons, George Blackwell of Rozel, Charles Blackwell of Larned and William Blackwell of Rozel; and one daughter, Mrs. C.R. Fudge of Larned, with whom he made his home for the last year.

His wife preceded him in death in April 1918, as well as a daughter who died in infancy and a son John E., who died at the age of four.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church.
