Spc. Alan J. Burgess, 24, of Landaff, NH, died in Mosul, Iraq, when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol vehicle. Burgess was assigned to the Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 197th Field Artillery Brigade, Woodsville, NH.

He was the son of Edward J. Burgess and Karen Moore. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a 4 yr. old son, two sisters and a brother.
