Marguerite was the daughtr of James "Jim" Tate and his wife Bessie Bowen Tate. She was born in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Marguerite and her mother Bessie, a widow, were living with her grandparents Lee Leland Bowen and Frankie Bowen in Austin when the 1920 Census was taken. Bessie's second marriage was to Leland "Lee Pollan.
