After 37 years with NACA/NASA, he retired in 1974 as director of real estate. He was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church, of Poquoson, where he was a teacher of the Senior Adult Couples class. He graduated from Hampton High School and attended the University of Virginia and Cornell University.
He was survived by his wife, Helen H. Barber (1923-2018); two daughters, Marilyn B. Finnigan, of Alexandria, Va., and Catherine B. Brousseau of Newport News; and one son, David W. Barber, of Hampton; four sisters, Gwendelyn Brown, of Hampton, Peggy Urrutia, of Newport News, Anne Urgola, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Patricia Kennedy, of Charlottesville; one brother, George C. Barber Jr., of Newport News; And five grandchildren.
