A farmer and landowner of 2,500 acres of land near Pomona, he raised alfalfa and grain as well as cattle and fruit. In 1862 he went to Idaho and mined for gold and silver, returning to California in 1867, then to Maine, then back to California in 1869 where he remained until his death. Currier also served as sheriff of Los Angeles County as well as serving on the State Senate in 1898. The University of Redlands has named a gym in his honor.
