Perry was a cotton and grain farmer. According to his death certificate, he had abscessed appendices on June 22, 1933 and had an appendectomy on June 25, 1933. By July 5, he died from a thrombosis to the heart at the Gainesville Sanitarium on Lindsay Street in Gainesville, Cooke, Texas.
Perry was the young father of five young children, Earl J., Joe Eldon, O.C. "Pete", Opal Eugenia and Eva Irene.
