Dessie Lily Casteel Hommel, 89, went to be with the Lord Monday, Nov. 29, 1999 at 6:30 a.m. at Wexford House Healthcare in Kingsport.

She was born in Scott County (Ft. Blackmore), Va., and moved to Kingsport in 1941. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Lynn Garden Evangelical Methodist Church and attended Morrison City Mission.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hughie Lee Hommel in 1985; one son, Paris Wayne Hommel; her parents, Rev. Elbert Lee and Sarah Knowles Casteel ; great granddaughter, Rebecca Pierson Akers; one sister, Effie Mae Lane; three brothers, the Rev. Dennie Casteel , Charlie Casteel and Paris Casteel .

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Howard (Ruth) Overbay, Kingsport, Mrs. Albert (Doris) Gilliam, Blountville, Mrs. Donald (Patsy) Barnette, Gray, Mrs. Ken (Brenda) Martin, Newnan, Ga.; one son, Charles Hommel and wife, Rosa Nell, Kingsport; 15 grandchildren 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Plunkett, York, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Freda Hommel; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the son's residence, Charles Hommel, 504 Weeks Ave., Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joe Hill and her grandson, the Rev. Randy Hommel officiating.

Graveside services will follow at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Charles Hommel Jr., David L. Hommel, Rick Overbay, Danny Gilliam, Jeff Hommel, Terry Hommel, Scott Brewer and Tony Street.
