George was 16 at the time of his death. He and a companion from Tekamah were ice skating on Lake Quinnebaugh when the ice upon which they were skating gave way. His companion struggled and did succeed in saving himself, but the water was reportedly 20 feet deep in that area. Young George was unable to surface and accidentally drowned. A sad thing for the young man and his entire family.
