Services for Marie Brown were held Friday, April 9, 1999 at the United Methodist Church in Lenox, Iowa with Rev. Audrey Westendorf officiating.
Marie passed away at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa April 6, 1999.
Marie Brown was born July 3, 1914 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to William and Louisa (Heuwinkel) Burkhalter. She attended elementary school in
Pottawattamie County and graduated from Corning High School in 1933.
She was united in marriage to Darrel Stanley Brown April 1, 1939 in Maryville, Missouri. She taught rural schools in Adams County until her marriage.
She was a postal carrier m Vancouver, Washington during WW II. Marie and her husband, Darrel returned to Lenox to farm in 1952. She worked for the Lenox School System as a cook for over 25 years. She was a member of the Lenox United Methodist Church.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children Roger (Coni) Brown of Clearwater, Florida and Carene Sullivan of San Diego, California; five grandchildren and one great grandson; three sisters Rosenia Hunter of Burlington, Iowa, LaVerne Bovaird of Prescott and Lillian Brown of Lenox.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Darrel in 1989; three brothers, Arthur, Edwin and Arnold Burkhalter; two sisters, Freida Crane and Esther Burkhalter.
Burial was in the Stringtown Cemetery with Coen Beaty Funeral Home of Lenox in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the Lenox United Methodist Church.
