Valerie Myers Blackburn a long time resident of Crow, Texas passed away on August 21, 2012 at the Community Care Center in Mineola . Valerie was born on January 25, 1910 in Crow, Wood County , Texas to the late William Wesley Myers and Beulah Ann Parker. Valerie is survived by four nieces and nephews. Mary Ann Wiesner of Waller, Texas, Katrina Ellen Martin of Rockville, Maryland, Hugh Glen Hart of Washington, DC and Billy Myers Hart Forney, Texas. Grandnieces are Lillian Knapheide, Mary Wood, Linda Loving and Ashleigh Martin. One grandnephew, William Myers Hart II.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Blackburn, in June, 1963. Other sisters deceased are Datha Ross McNeal, Willie Gray, Mary Christian, Dorothy Hart and Katrina Weidner Davis.
Valerie was a long time member of the Smith Chapel Methodist Church . In 1957 she was instrumental in moving the church bell from the Crow United Methodist Church to Smith Chapel. The bell was donated to the Crow church around 1910 by her father, William Wesley Myers and Henry Dunahoe.
Burial services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Beaty Funeral Home Chapel in Mineola ( 5396 State Hwy 37) . Visitation will be at 9:00am Friday.
