Army Pfc. Rockhold was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized), Ft. Stewart, Georgia. He was directing traffic on a Baghdad bridge when he was struck by a sniper's bullet from behind. Marlin was a 1998 graduate of Hamilton High School. He was a quiet and shy person but loved to joke around when he was with someone he knew well. He fulfilled his dream of joining the armed forces when he joined the Army on March 4, 2002. Marlin leaves behind his wife, DaVonna, and an 8-year-old stepchild.
