Janine Marcelle Mitchell, 65, of 1612 Tenth Ave. Pl., Grinnell, died at her home Wednesday, July 24.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Anthony G. Farrell officiating. Also participating was the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church.

Music was provided by the St. Mary's Choir and organist Barbara Sorensen, and soloists were Jan and Jody Epperson and Mike Gross.

Pallbearers were Keith Bailey, Mike Bales, David Foy, Terry Gross, Michael Fouts and Gordon Sumner. Honorary bearers were Mike, Chris and Mitch Gross, Jennifer Foy, Cody Bales and Mike Bales Jr.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Rene and Armadine Henry, she was born Aug. 10, 1925, in Nogent, France. She attended schools at Nogent and Chaumont.

She was married to Ben Mitchell March 6, 1946. The couple moved to Grinnell where Mrs. Mitchell was employed at the former St. Francis Hospital, Grinnell General Hospital and the Mayflower Health Care Center. She had also worked for Drs. Bernard Wiltfang and J.B. Paulson.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a volunteer with the Birthright organization.

Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Danielle Gross of Grinnell, Benita Foy of West Des Moines and Michele Bales of Indianola; six grandchildren; and one sister, Solange Longlet of Bologne, France.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jacqueline Henry.
