He was studying law when he married. His law studies were interrupted when he served in World War II. After the war he left law and went into Real Estate. He and Alzada had five children. The following information was supplied by Stacy Vonk, the oldest granddaughter of Alvin Chance: " Alvin Canova Chance towards the end of World War II was stationed in Germany. The First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, desired to organize the first stake south of the Mississippi River; they had been inspired to call Alvin Chace as the Stake President. The problem was that Alvin had two more years in Germany before he woud be discharged and returned to the United States. The church waited that two years and then extended Alvin that "calling" in the south. When his oldest daughter, Juana Chance Vonk was in High School Alvin was called to be the President of the Louisville Kentucky Mission. He and his wife, Alzada Beasley Chace loved their missionary service. At that time thay had adopted all five of their children: Juana Chace Vonk, Debbie Chace Kerce, David Chace, Gina Chace Rhoden, and James Chace. In the 1970's the church started a new leadership position called " Regional Representative of the Twelve". This calling lasted ten years. His calling was to travel on weekendsto the many stakes and hold special leadership meetings and tp preside at all of the stake conferences, teaching and representing the First Presidency of the Church. Wherever Alvin was, he would approach anyone and everyone and ask them, " Would you like to know more about Jesus Christ and His Attonement?"
