Lucian Graham Guthrie preceded him in death. Benjamin Franklin and Ophelia Guthrie celebrated 69 years of marriage. Ophelia died April 2, 1968 at age 92.
Benjamin Franklin Guthrie was a farmer near Farmington, Graves County, Kentucky. The farm was located off Usher Road. They sold the farm about 1946 and moved to Paris Road at the outskirts of Mayfield where they still raised chickens and had a big vegetable garden. By 1955, they decided to move to Johnson City, Tennessee to be near two of their sons and spouses and two of their grandchildren. The other two sons lived within about 200 miles. In the fall of 1967, they sold their home on Virginia Street in Johnson City and moved to Appalachian Christian Village Retirement Home. They treated each move as a new adventure. Following Ophelia's death, Benjamin Franklin continued to live life to its fullest until his death on May 21, 1971 about 3 months before his 97th birthday.
He was an active member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.
