Clarence married Ellen Elizabeth Senn in Payson, Utah on December 19, 1936. They had two children, Clarence Elden (Sherylene) Laird, Salt Lake and Sharen (Dale) Hamilton, Kamas. Ellen preceded Clarence in death in 1972. Clarence was a 32-degree Mason and belonged to Argenta Lodge No. 3, F.&A.M. and was a member of the Scottish Rite of Salt Lake City.
He served in the U.S. Army during Word War II and was a Master Machinist. After the war, he worked as supervisor and foreman of machine shops at Eimco Corp., Thiokol, and the Galigher Company. Clarence was a mentor to many young people and taught his trade with pride and respect. There wasn't anything Clarence couldn't fix.
He married Anne M. Newman on April 21, 1975 who survives him, along with a stepson, Stephen L. Newman, St. Louis, and many of Anne's children and grandchildren. Clarence is also survived by sisters, Hattie Brough, Phoenix and Dion Brandon, American Fork; brother, Don E. Laird, Salt Lake; five grandchildren: Sandi and Krisie Hamilton, Stacy (Mike) Bernardo, Greg (Kim) Laird of Salt Lake, Shelley (Jeffrey) Lasky, Los Angeles; five great-grandchildren: Jordan and Zachary Bernardo, Melissa Laird, Noah and Julia Lasky. Brothers: Sterlin, Glenn, Alvin and Cecil Laird, preceded him in death.
In his later years, Clarence cherished the times he spent with friends at the Northwest Senior Citizens Center.
The family gratefully wishes to acknowledge the loving and dedicated care given to dad by Dr. James Kushner of the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Utah Heritage Hospice staff.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2001 at 12 noon in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, where friends and family may call 10:45-11:45 a.m., prior to services.
Interment, Elysian Gardens.
