Earl R. Anderson, age 84 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
He was born May 02, 1927, in Saint Jacob, IL, the son of James Eugene and Frieda Philipine (nee Schneider) Anderson.
On November 08, 1950, he married Shirley Mae Mueller who survives.
He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. He was also a member of Helvetia Sharpshooters Society (served as Vice-President for a # of years); Highland Optimist Club (served as Vice-President for two terms); American Legion Post - St. Jacob, Il (former member); Business Agent for the Laborer Local 397; St. Louis Metro Polka Club.
Mr. Anderson was born west of St. Jacob, IL, near what is now Triad Middle School, a short distance from the old Anderson Country School. He attended St. Jacob Grade and High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Seaman 1st Class, from 5/18/1945 to 7/23/1946, with duty in the Asiatic-Pacific Fleet aboard the USS Sandoval. He worked as a Laborer for Local #397 in Granite City, IL for 44 years, retiring in 1989. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He also enjoyed dancing, traveling, playing cards, playing bingo, working on antique tractors, watching the Food Network, wrestling and NASCAR (Carl Edwards #99), coffee group at Hardee's in the morning, working on the farm, mowing grass and putting in water ways. He and his wife travelled to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, North America, Central America and the Panama Canal.
