Dad was the 7th child of 11 children of Walter Adelbert Smith and Nellie Emeline Boone. My Father served in the Army during WWII. He was trained in Ft Scott Illinois. He was being trained as a radio gunner on a B-52 bomber. He was sent down to Biloxi Mississippi in 1943 (about) as it was overflowing. He was helping sandbag the river in the town. He got pneumonia and them Rheumatic Fever. He was in the hospital for a 1944 - 1945 he said. He was discharged on a medical discharge.
He worked at building himself up by the Walt Baptiste method with yoga and weight lifting. After he was well enough he trained as a semi-truck driver and drove for many moving companies in San Francisco including 25 years at Bekins. After he retired from moving furniture and Pianos he was a custodian for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in San Rafael, California. He and my mother Virginia married in 1946 and celebrated 55 years in May 2001 before he passed away.
Dad and Mom [John and Virginia] worked together as their last jobs for 8 years as the managers of their mobile home park. Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints from when Dad joined the church in 1961. They were sealed in the Oakland Temple in 1965.
They had two children, my brother Mike and me [Sherry.] They had four granddaughters and one grandson. They have three great grandsons and five great granddaughters.
There was a full military funeral at the Santa Nella cemetery on November 5, 2001, where he was interred.
