Steven Rand Fortner of Longview, Wash., formerly of Springfield, died Oct. 13 of Creutzfeldt Jakob disease. He was 48.

He was born Nov. 13, 1955, in Florence to Richard and Arlene Canaday Fortner. He graduated from Thurston High School in 1974.

He married Vicki Susan Bromley in Springfield on March 20, 1976.

Mr. Fortner worked for Coast to Coast in Springfield for 10 years. He also worked as a purchasing agent for Brown and Root Co. of Longview.

He was a former member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church in Springfield and a member of Grace Bible Fellowship in Kelso, Wash.

Survivors include his wife; his mother; two sons, Jon of Creswell and Stephen of Kelso; a daughter, Jen Fortner of Longview; two brothers, Rick of Eugene and Ron of Springfield; a sister, Shannon Patton of Springfield; and three grandchildren.

Burial at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene. Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of arrangements.
