Graduated in the U. S. Naval Academy class of 1953. a Naval Aviator, he was killed in an aircraft accident while flying a F-8 fighter from NAS North Island at Coronado, CA.

From his boyhood best friend Joseph Irwin: I read in our home town news that Jerry experienced a flameout over North Island and rather than endanger a housing area, he chose to ditch in the Ocean and did not survive. He is well remembered by his High School class of 1948 as a terrific piano player who would always draw a crowd when he would play "Flight of the Bumblebee " by ear. A squared-away, 4.0 x 4.0 guy that we knew he would go far in anything he would engage in
