A Fatal Accident
A telegram was received here on Thursday evening announcing the sad news of the accidental death of Mr. K. O. Thistle, which occurred Thursday afternoon.

For the past month or two Mr. Thistle has been engaged on the Ouray branch of the D.&R.G. with his force of men, and at the time of his death was superintending the work of driving piles on the edge of a steep grade. The horses in pulling up the hammer were breaking over the edge of the bank; at this particular time they fell over and became entangled in the ropes and gearing. Mr. Thistle, with others, ran to straighten them out, and in some way he became entangled in the rope. The hammer was almost at the pint of tripping and the man having it in charge tripped it. A twenty ton hammer falling on the rope jerked it back with terrific force, and a loop caught Mr. T. breaking his neck and killing him instantly. The remains were brought in on Friday morning's train.

Mr. Thistle has been a resident of our city for the past four years, coming here from Gunnison. He was a trusted employee of the D.&R.G. for several years. He leaves a wife and two small children to mourn his untimely death, and who have the heart-felt sympathy of our community.

The funeral of Mr. K. O. Thistle, which took place on Sunday last, was one of the largest that has ever occurred in the city. The M.E. Church South was unable to accommodate the large audience which came to pay their last respects to the dead man. All the ministers in the city were present and assisted in the funeral services, Rev. A. L. Chase preaching the sermon, which was listened to with marked attention. The services were conducted by the Masons, of which order he was a prominent member. A large procession followed the body to Fairview Cemetery. We understand that Mr. Thistle had, a few days previous to his death, insured his life for $5000, and the very train that brought his body home, also brought his insurance policy.
