ANDREW ELLICOTT DOUGLAS, A.M. [son of David], born at West Point, NY., Nov. 18, 1819; graduated from Kenyon College in 1838, receiving degree of Master of Arts in 1841; married May 13, 1847, Sarah Cortelyon, daughter of George L, CORNELL, Esq., of Brooklyn, and later of Rye. Mrs. CORNELL was Isabella Woodbridge SHELDON, daughter of Charles SHELDON, of Hartford, Conn. Mr. DOUGLAS entered the office of the Hazard Powder Co., New York, in 1843, as secretary; was vice-president and acting president from August, 1867 to June 1876; retired from active business; resides ('78) in New York city.

In Memory of David Bates Douglass
Who departed this life October 21st 1849, aged 59 years.
This monument is erected by the Corporation of the Green-Wood Cemetery to commemorate the zealous services of its first president, who from the incorporation of the cemetery in 1838, until his resignation in January 1841, earnestly devoted his abilities to promote its establishment.
