Mr. John Burgess died at his home in Althelstane township, Clay county, Kansas, in the evening of April 18, 1904, aged 82 years.
He was born in Ontwell, Cambridgeshire, England in 1821. Two years later his parents came to America and settled in LaSalle county, near Mendota, Illinois. In 1879 he came to Kansas and located in Althelstane township, Clay county. He was married in 1852 to Mary Snellen. This union was blessed with five sons and three daughters. Two son have preceded him in death. He was tenderly laid to rest in the Althelstane cemetery. Longford, Kansas April 25, 1904.
