Sylvester Hart was born in Windsor County, Vermont. He was in Indiana when he volunteered in the Union Army, giving his age as 27 years, a farmer with hazel eyes, brown hair, 5' !0". He was discharged 19 Sep 1865 as disabled with disease of the stomach and bowels. He was married to Frances Angelina Brown 23 December 1858 in Morgan County, Indiana. After his death and her marriage to William Anderson, application was made for guardianship of the minor children: Flora E., Frank M., and Ida M. It is said that both Sylvester Hart and William Anderson were ministers and had served at Independence Church. There are also three Hart children buried at Independence Cemtery who died young, Elmer P. Hart, Nancy M. Hart, and James A. Hart.
