First Lieutenant, 366th Bomber Squadron, 305th Bomber Group (Heavy), U.S. Army Air Forces. Entered the service from Massachusetts. Missing in Action. Awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Following training at Maxwell Field, Alabama; and fields in Greenville, Michigan; Spokane Washington; Craigfield, Alabama; Sebring, Florida; South Dakota and Oklahoma, he was serving as a co-pilot on a B-17 Flying Fortress on his first combat mission when his plane crashed into the English Channel with a loss of all crew aboard.
